Crystal Peak Mine Pictures
Crystal Peak Mine is pretty amazing. Great views, fun digging in the dirt, collecting rocks and crystals. We have found some small quartz crystals here. They are pretty interesting. I will put a picture of them up on this page soon. For now below are some pictures taken of the surronding country side from the top of the mine
The mine is located, roughly west of Peavine Peak, and West by Northwest of Reno, Nevada. Take the Border town exit, exit 83, right at the California-Nevada border, off of 395. Go west on the frontage road, just south of the free way. Right after the Border town restaraunt, turn left on a dirt road. Follow this road over the railroad tracks, this is Long Valley road. Continue through the only stop sign, cross over the cattle guard, at the entrance to the Toyoibe National Forest. You follow this road for several miles. It is well graded and passable through most of the year. After a hard left on the main road, about a quarter of a mile turn right into the mine. There use to be a sign but it is gone now. You will have to turn right on a couple of dirt roads, and check them out if you have never been there before. The road is obvious, once you are on it becaue it is white from the quartz dirt used to cover the road. Y
You can also leave Verdi, Nevada and follow the signs to Dog Valley. Once in dog Valley follow the main Raod, which is still Long Valley Road, right to the mine, right after Crystal Peak Campground. This campground is rustic now with no running water and pit toliets. You will have to haul your trash out from this campground. But you don't have to pay!
Following are a few pictures taken from Crystal Peak Mine. If you click on the caption links then you will be taken to a hi res version of the picture. Caution is advised. I used Walmart's service so the hi res versions are around 3 megs each
